Do you or someone you know participate in CS Parks & Rec? Read this!

Coming soon, many after school programs, kids and adults sport leagues,  senior citizens programs and other community events and activities may be cut. The city of Colorado Springs is taking a look at their budget and have their eyes on the Parks & Rec department. According to the Colorado Springs Independent, over 50,000 children, teens, adults and seniors utilize the Parks & Rec activities and locations. Programs could disappear, and facilities could close (and lock) their doors.

To help support the Parks & Rec department, there will be a Peaceful Protest in front of City Hall TODAY, JAN 23rd from 2-4pm. City Hall is located at 107 N. Nevada Ave.

You can also attend a City Council meeting on Tuesday, JAN 27th @ 1pm located also at City Hall.

For more information, please contact Colleen @ 495-9848 or email jaycheeash@msn.com

You can also sign a petition to stop the budget cuts here!

Basketball is a “slam dunk!”

Everyone loves the basketball unit! Especially the Pre-K class! I made a special hoop just for them! I searched my equipment room for items that I could make a hoop with,  and found an old equipment bag and old hula hoop. I made a few snips and cuts here and there, taped up the hoop there and here and voila…a homemade basketball hoop!

Mrs. H's homemade bball hoop!

Mrs. H's homemade bball hoop!

Now, the only thing I need to do is figure out how to support it horizontally instead of it hanging vertically from the big hoop! The preschoolers were so excited because it felt like a real hoop! They were doing some sweet jump shots, lay-ups and even a slam dunk now and then!

K-5th grade are working on their upper body arm streght and trying to make a big hoop! Even if the K-2nd graders hit the backboard, rim or net, I count it as a point! If they make the hoop, it’s 2 points!

Some fun games we’ve played so far are take away, hot shot, make it take it and dodge the defender!

Here are some cool videos of slam dunks!

Yoga Day USA, Saturday Jan. 24th

Post from Yoga Day USA.org:

Each year hundreds of yoga teachers and schools offer free or nearly free yoga workshops to Americans across the country. These professional Yoga Alliance Registered Teachers (RYT) and Schools (RYS) are committed to meeting the unique needs of their local communities and often use their events as a fundraiser for a local charity.

Thousands of Americans — the young and old, the flexible and not-so-flexible, athletes and couch potatoes and those of every heritage will discover, rediscover or continue with their current practice through a workshop perfect for them.

In the practice of karma yoga or service to others, these amazing yoga teachers and schools use their talents to help build community and change lives through yoga.

Yoga Day USA was created by Yoga Alliance, the international gold standard for professional yoga teachers and schools and the leader in setting standards that protect the health and welfare of society.
