Help us save our “Field of Dreams” UPDATE

On Saturday November 22nd, about 30 people showed up to voice their opinion of the recently closed park, “The field of dreams”. Not much was resolved and many volunteered to help and even donated money that day! There will be another meeting scheduled for December 13th at 9:30 am located at the Ute Pass Elementary Gym. There will be a 30 minute discussion then a break out into smaller groups. The topics of discussion will be about organization, funding, maintenance, event planning, and more.

For more information, please contact Mrs. Hitchcock (685-2227) or Tom Dobson (684-2013) or email at utepassfod@gmail.com

MORE UPDATES, 12/5/08: Today a letter was sent from the current owners of the field. They have terminated the lease and there is 30 days remaining until the close of the park indefinitely. WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!! Please come to the meeting on the 13th so that we can voice our right to use the park!

  1. 1)What ever happened to the field of Dreams.
2)Have we given up on getting it opened again?
    3) Does the school ever want to use it again?

    • Hi Rex, thanks for your questions.
      1) The current owners of the field felt like there was too much “risk” to have complete strangers playing on their property so they locked the gates. Not to mention a list about 4 pages long of other “reasons”.
      2) A small group of us did try to fight for it and work with the owners but now everyone has given up but would still really REALLY like to use it!
      3) The school would LOVE to use it and has always liked using it. (As well as the community!) The field and surrounding areas provided a place for our Field Day, it gave kids the opportunity to lean about stream-bed biology, many parents took their kids there to learn how to fly a kite (only open space in the valley), the fire department and “hotshots” used it for wildfires and training, it was really the only open space for dogs to run and chase a ball, and kids learned how to swing a bat.

So yes, we are very heartbroken about this field. Especially when times are tough, communities need to pull together and offer a place for kids to play and neighbors to BBQ….very sad indeed. Any ideas?
