Walk to School Day!

Today was walk to school day for many schools in Colorado! It’s in celebration of  International Walk to School day that will be held on October 7th. Overall, we had about 26 kids that walked or rode their bikes to school! Students were awarded with small thank you gifts as well as some hot chocolate! It was a cold day! Students, teachers and parents walked about 2 miles from start to finish!

Pikes Peak Ascent!

Over the weekend, Mrs. Hitchcock’s husband ran the Pikes Peak Ascent and finished at 3 hours and 58 minutes! This was his first time running up Pikes Peak and he loved it! He has inspired Mrs. Hitchcock to train for the 2010 Ascent!

The Pikes Peak Ascent is where runners start in Memorial Park in Manitou Springs and try to run 13.1 miles all the way up Pikes Peak by way of the Barr Trail. The top time this year for the Ascent was 2 hours, 12 minutes by Tim Parr!

The Pikes Peak Marathon is where runners go up Pikes Peak AND all the way back down to equal 26.2 miles! The top time for the Marathon this year was by Manitou native, Matt Carpenter with a time of 3 hours, 37 minutes!

Bring your “A” game!

This fall, thanks to the Air Force Academy, Mrs. Hitchcock will be offering sporting event tickets to students that really bring their “A” game to P.E.! What does that mean? Well, students that are “caught” having good sportsmanship, respecting themselves, others or the equipment, helping another student or displaying exceptional behavior on the playground will qualify for FREE tickets to an Air Force athletic event! This is a wonderful opportunity for students to get to see Division One athletes in action!!

Dates for the games include:

Friday, Sept. 18th @ 5pm Women’s Soccer

Sunday, Sept. 20th @ 11am Women’s Soccer

Thursday, Sept. 24th @ 7pm Women’s Volleyball

Friday, Oct. 23rd @ 7pm Men’s Soccer

Sunday, Oct. 25th @ 1pm Men’s Soccer

Saturday, Oct. 31st @ 1pm Women’s Volleyball

Saturday, Nov. 21st @ 1pm Women’s Volleyball

Back to Cool!

Whoops! I mean back to school of course, but school IS cool! Not only do you get to see all of your friends and favorite teachers, but also Ute Pass is celebrating it’s 40th birthday and got new playground and PE equipment for it’s present! You voted, and you got it! Three new playground items were added and boy are they fun! (Believe me, I’ve tried them myself, along with my 2 year old!)

As far as PE equipment goes, look for a NEW parachute, tether balls, spin jammers, and a HUGE 6′ poly-skeleton puzzle! Sweet!
